Waikato-Tainui Archives focuses on the researching, preserving and sharing of Waikato-Tainui data and koorero, inclusive of video, images, audio, written documents and oral historical accounts. Waikato-Tainui Archives will strive to become strong, independent and sustainable within and beyond Waikato-Tainui, to develop and safe keep Waikato-Tainui and Maatauranga Maaori from a Te Whakakitenga o Waikato (TWoW) perspective.

 

The content held in Waikato-Tainui Archives Online are historical accounts gathered over the years from 1946 to today, these accounts are sourced from Waikato-Tainui (and affiliated) administrative organisations such as the former Tainui Maaori Trust Board  (TMTB 1996-1996), TMTB Management Committees (1984- ), Marae & Hapu Collectives like Huakina Development Trust (HDT), respective Marae & Hapuu, Waikato-Tainui uri (descendants), The Kiingitanga, post 1995 Raupatu Settlement entities such as the Waikato Raupatu Trustee Company Limited (WRTCL) and affiliated entities to the current Te Whakakitenga o Waikato (TWoW), local organisations and externally (National Library etc).

 

Some individuals and place names may appear different in other documentation due to historical accounts by other iwi and pakeke with interests regarding Waikato-Tainui and Tainui Waka historical accounts.  This work is in no way a refutation to any other and further recorded historical accounts but in fact, a correlation of events that support and preserve accounts relating to Waikato-Tainui and Tainui Waka Iwi.

 

Te Whakakitenga o Waikato (TWoW) is not responsible for inaccurate or contrary accounts that may arise within these Archives. Due to missing hapuu or marae historical oral and written accounts, accessible and existing sources of information were utilised.

 

All records presented in Waikato-Tainui Archives are credited to donors as noted, and/or Waikato-Tainui and owned by Te Whakakitenga o Waikato (TWoW).
