The Maaori Freehold and Lands Act allocated a Maaori Reservation for the purpose of a marae, where Te Puea Memorial is situated.
The marae is located on the southeastern side of Maangere Bridge near the shores of the Manukau Harbour. Te Puea Memorial Marae is the northernmost marae of the Waikato confederation. The marae links ancestrally to the Tainui waka.
